About Field Note

A magazine for people
who love sport for
more than the
scoreboard

Field Note is an independent sports culture magazine built around photography, design and storytelling. We look at sport the way it actually feels from the stands, the sideline and the locker room, as identity, community, culture and visual language, not just results.

Two players stretch for the opening tip-off, the ball just above their fingertips, in front of a full arena.

We still believe in print

Social media has made creative work more accessible, but there’s still nothing like holding your work in your hands and knowing it reached someone beyond a screen. Field Note is designed as a coffee-table publication, the kind of magazine you keep, not scroll past.

It’s a space where photographers, writers, designers and other collaborators can be part of something lasting.

Publishing rhythm

Quarterly, Bilingual
by nature

Field Note is published quarterly, four issues a year. The magazine is published primarily in English, with French woven in where the story calls for it, reflecting the bilingual culture of the city it comes from.

Meet the founder

Led by a designer and
sports photographer

Field Note is led by Zoé Beaudry, a Montréal-based graphic designer and sports photographer working across editorial design, branding and live sports coverage.

With a background in graphic design and publication layout, Zoé brings a visual-first approach to sports storytelling, including editorial production, image editing and prepress work on large-scale publications such as Le Guide de l’auto, alongside brand, web and social projects for clients in sport and culture.

As a photographer, she’s covered hockey, soccer, basketball and motorsport, including the PWHL, AHL, WNBA, NSL and motorsport events such as Formula E, IndyCar and NASCAR Canada .

“Growing up near Montréal, sport was always around me. This magazine looks forward, toward a more visual, thoughtful and intentional way of telling stories in sport, starting with the ones that have been waiting the longest to be told properly.”
